UDLR Weekly News Round-up

In a week dominated by the hype of Fallout 4, we take a look back at what else fell on the agenda in the video game industry. Call of Duty’s unexpected recovery, Zelda’s return and Life is Strange all feature!

Black Ops 3 Bucks the Trend

We start with news that will surprise many across the industry, it appears the Call of Duty franchise may be on the rise once again. After suffering years of successive decline, the video game industries’ biggest blockbuster series is finally showing signs of recovery. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 recorded greater week 1 sales than predecessor ‘Advanced Warfare’ and 2014’s ‘Ghosts’.

Life is Strange In a Box

Elsewhere Square Enix announced that Life is Strange, the narratively driven episodic adventure game is set for release complete in physical form for the first time. Scheduled for a 2016 release date this surprise package will include all 5 episodes, a 32 page artbook and the soundtrack. Something worth keeping an eye on if you missed the digital rollout!

GAME Fails To Deliver… Again

In retail news and what is becoming a depressingly familiar story, GAME once again suffered from logistical issues in delivering on their commitments. This time it was the much anticipated Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition that brought the wrath upon them. With pre-orders booked back as early as June customers were left angry and disappointed as orders were cancelled just days before release.

Minecraft finally arrives on Wii U

Available on almost every console under the sun it appears Minecraft is finally finding its way onto the Wii U, a listing appeared on the PEGI ratings site for a (creatively named) ‘Minecraft: Wii U Edition’. Further details have yet to be announced but as a major coup for Nintendo’s family focus, expect to hear more information sooner rather than later!

Zelda confirmed for 2016

Finally, it appears Wii U owners everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief; Zelda’s latest adventure is still set for 2016 and Nintendo’s struggling console. Concerns had been mounting for some time with rumours suggesting the game may be bumped up to Nintendo’s as yet unannounced console as a launch title, leaving Wii U owners in the dark. This now appears not to be the case.

Fallout 4 tops the charts

Unsurprisingly, Fallout 4 topped the UK charts delivering the best ever launch for the series according to Chart Track. Whilst Rise of the Tomb Raider only managed to grab fourth spot behind FIFA 16 and Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

Here is this weeks top ten:

  1. Fallout 4
  2. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  3. FIFA 16
  4. Rise of the Tomb Raider
  5. Minecraft: Story Mode
  6. Need for Speed
